In order to further the dialog between all interested and sophisticated patients, their family members and physicians, the Deutscher Verlag für Gesundheitsinformation also presents one of the few German specialized health communities (medfriend.de) on the internet. Its goal is to create a cooperation platform on which patients/family members/physicians/pharmacists et al can “record”, “exchange” and “search for” their experiences with certain disorders and diseases, over-the-counter and prescription drugs and their side effects (exchange of knowledge).
First and foremost, we address people suffering from a medical condition who would like to exchange views with other persons suffering from the same or a similar disorder or disease as today, the first step to find information about medical conditions and their symptoms is to search the internet. Our health community medfriend.de focuses on the exchange and circulation of knowledge that each patient has gained over the course of their sickness. Thereby, other patients and family members who cannot yet rely on such a vast experience are offered a much easier approach on how to deal with their disease or disorder and with health care staff and medical institutions. Especially persons with rare medical conditions can find and contact other people affected by the same disorders.
